What’s included

What a kitchen
renovation includes.

A kitchen is several trades in one room. They are planned together so the cabinets, the plumbing and the wiring agree before anything is ordered.

  1. Layout and design

Where the sink, range and fridge sit, how you move between them, and whether a wall should stay.

    • A measured plan of the room
    • An island or a peninsula
    • Opening the kitchen to the next room
    • A design to review before work starts
  2. Cabinetry and islands

Storage built to the room, so the awkward corner and the tall wall both earn their space.

    • Custom cabinetry
    • Custom islands
    • Pantry and drawer storage
    • Hardware
  3. Counters and backsplash

The surfaces that take the wear, chosen for how you cook and how much care you want to give them.

    • Quartz, granite and marble counters
    • Tile backsplash
    • Sink and faucet installation
  4. Floors and finishing

The last stage of the job: the floor, the trim and the lighting that make it one room.

    • Hardwood or tile flooring
    • Lighting
    • Trim and paint

We discuss the work and your budget at the start, then keep you informed as the project moves through each stage.

Good to know

Planning a kitchen:
what shapes the job.

Most of a kitchen renovation is decided before demolition: the layout, the order the parts arrive in and which approvals the work needs.

Layout comes first

Cabinets are built to a plan, counters are cut to the cabinets, and the plumbing and wiring are roughed in to suit both. That makes the layout the one decision everything else waits on, and the most expensive one to change late.

An island needs clear floor on every side to be useful. In a narrow room a peninsula, or more counter along one wall, often gives the same work surface without blocking the path through.

The order the parts arrive in

A kitchen comes together in a fixed sequence: rough-in behind the walls, then cabinets, then a template for the counters, then the counters themselves, then the backsplash and the finishing. Stone counters are measured only once the cabinets are in place, which is why there is a pause between the two.

Permits and electrical

A like-for-like kitchen often needs no building permit: East Gwillimbury lists some finish and cupboard replacements as exempt. Structural changes and altered plumbing are different, and should be confirmed with the building department before work starts.

Electrical work is a separate process from the building permit. New circuits for an island or appliances are filed with the Electrical Safety Authority, normally by the Licensed Electrical Contractor doing the work.
